The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” – Coretta Scott King

SPHERE OF INFLUENCE

We program in the East Bay. Projects require focused and targeted outreach. Outreach is achieved through partnerships with other organizations, maintaining contacts through a mail list, social media, and, when possible, media & public relations contractors.

SWFCenter prides itself on being unapologetic in targeting African Americans and the African Diaspora as our primary audience. Yet, we attract diverse audiences, including Latinx, Asian, and Caucasians, and we welcome all. Some SWFCenter programs are specifically pointed at youth ages 15 and below. Other programs are focused on middle and adult ages. However, generally, we view our programs as multi-generational.

Block Party

Day-long street event: BBQ, movies in the park, street games- basketball hoops, etc. SWFCenter encourages the creative process with youth and empowered a small group of Emeryville young leaders with life skills and healthy responses to challenges. Promoted the idea of solvable difficulties given sufficient community support and careful planning. Neighborhood Youth project. completed

The Hummingbirds Urban Farm creating deep connections to land and community

Hummingbirds Urban Farm is dedicated to creating deep connections to land and community for children of color. The name is inspired by a folk tale told by Warangari Maathai about the mighty power of even the smallest among us.

We are building land projects in Oakland that will serve as a community space centered on children, caregivers and educators. This is an aspiring black-led land-based liberation space for healing, growing, and learning.
